"The ICT Sector Has to Be Sensitive to Nature"

Oguz Haliloglu, CEO, Defne - BThaber, June 2014

“By the year 2020, ICT (Information and Communications Technology) sector is expected to triple its energy consumption that is already one of the highest levels. Thus, ICT has to stay sensitive to nature,” says Oguz Haliloglu, CEO at Defne.

Oguz Haliloglu adds, “New services and innovative applications such as e-government, e-operations, machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, vehicle tracking, audio and video conferencing, and working from home, that are offered by the ICT sector, support energy savings and reduced use of other valuable resources such as gas, paper, electricity, etc.”

“New electronic systems that support green ICT, use less electricity/energy and reduce carbon footprint are being developed and deployed more and more.

For example; by incorporating remote meeting and tele-conferencing applications to their business processes, companies are able to use their data lines for video conferencing and document sharing through virtual meetings. In addition to increasing the efficiency of their operations, they also reduce the time, money and amount of energy (fuel) spent on travel. Use of M2M applications and devices in commercial/industrial buildings makes it possible to remotely monitor, control and secure the efficient use of all systems (from heating/cooling to electricity) without the need for any human intervention.”
